Spitzer Retakes Chinatown
Eliot Spitzer is back...sort of. Can I ever forgive him? For the hooker, sure, but not what he did to railroad Wall Street.
He return was not quite as triumphant as Douglas MacArthur’s, but he established a beachhead in Chinatown.
Baby steps, you know…
If Eliot Spitzer were to choose a venue at which to make his re-entry into society, he would presumably not have selected a former massage parlour in Chinatown on the Lower East Side of Manhattan.
But Mr. Spitzer, who resigned as governor of New York state after getting caught up in a call girl scandal this spring, did not get the choice. Happy Ending, the former parlour in question, is now a sleek bar and it is where Slate, the online magazine was holding its seasonal drinks party.
Mr. Spitzer this month started to write a column for Slate as part of his comeback - he wrote last week about the Detroit bail-out - and so he showed up at the Slate party to be sociable.
Hilarious, go check it out…

What (Faux) Brown Can Do For You
FedEx blew their numbers yesterday, and the stock got killed.
But they are doing better than the fake UPS guy:
Arizona Department of Public Safety Detectives have confiscated about 2,118 pounds of marijuana from a truck that appeared identical to a United Parcel Service truck.
A suspect fled the scene when an officer and narcotics canine attempted to stop the vehicle, according to MYFOXPhoenix.com.
A search of the truck yielded nearly $1.2 million worth of marijuana bundles typically transported by human drug carriers or “mules” through the desert, MYFOXPhoenix.com reported.
Suspects painted the truck to look like a UPS vehicle, complete with the typical reflective yellow decals, the station reported. The truck also sported a homemade Arizona license plate with a number that was assigned to an actual UPS truck servicing the Tucson area. Fox
Pretty ingenious, but they could not pull it off. But at this point I will pull for anything - hopefully the underground economy is doing better than the real one. Pot prices are probably dropping like every other agricultural commodity, right?
But this could ruin somebody’s Christmas. Self medicating is the only way to survive the last week of the year spent with relatives.

No Prohibitions on Inauguration Day in D.C.
Revelers looking to drink heavily during inauguration week have gotten their wish:
These are heady times.
Hoping to tap in to an inaugural bonanza, the D.C. Council Tuesday night voted in favor of extending last call to 5 a.m. and allow bars and restaurants to serve food around the clock during inauguration week.
Millions of visitors are expected to descend on the city to celebrate Barack Obama’s presidential swearing-in on Jan. 20. The council hopes to accommodate the throng by allowing licensed restaurants and taverns to serve drinks later and to keep their doors open 24 hours a day for the whole week.
At the request of Mayor Adrian M. Fenty, a Democrat, the legislation excluded nightclubs, which would have had to continue observing the current closing hour of 2 a.m. However, council member David A. Catania, at-large independent, moved after the vote to remove the nightclub exclusion from the bill, and his amendment carried 8-5. Washington Post
It might be a Depression, but at least it is not Prohibition. Now that would be a disaster.
