One of the sadder episodes on Wall Street came to a close last week with the sentencing of Stanislav Shpigelman to 37 months in prison...a gloomy day indeed.

It wasn’t a very good trade...given that he made $12,000 off the caper...and gets to spend the next 3+ years raking sand traps.

Crime doesn’t pay…

The former Merrill analyst told a Manhattan courtroom Friday that ‘I realize my actions are inexcusable. I should have walked away from the situation, but I didn’t have the strength’. Shpigelman’s lawyer said that ‘he’s made a mistake he’ll pay for for the rest of his life’. His mother expressed concern about the jail time, saying that ‘I know my son. I am afraid the stress of prison may break him’. Here Is The City

Ivank you to comb over this…

Like many people in America, we are not quite sure what to make of Donald Trump

And we really don’t know what to make of his hair

We do know that he is one of us...it is doubtful any other country could spawn such a creature of self-promotion

His recent spat with Rosie O’Donnell put him back on the front pages and created an opportunity to garner a little publicity in advance of the upcoming season of The Apprentice…

It would seem The Donald likes sparring with women...Martha...Carolyn...Rosie.

But he might meet his match on the upcoming season. The latest crop of hopeful’s is chock full of combative lawyers, and Trump will likely have his hands full...despite the fact that his daughter Ivanka will be around to cover his back.

Of course, she might be too busy blogging...Ivanka’s 360 degree blog

One of the contestants on the upcoming Apprentice season is a legal eagle on sabbatical from law firm Lerach Coughlin Stoia Geller Rudman & Robbins. The firm has built quite a franchise on Wall Street, particularly in the practices of securities fraud class actions and anti-trust litigation.

This young counselor wants to make Trump millions...work for world peace...and apparently snare a trophy husband…

Lil’ Miss Apprentice is on the prowl…
“a good way to meet Eli Manning, make him fall in love with me and live happily ever after"… Marisa the Apprentice

We might watch the latest iteration of The Apprentice...but only if it does not conflict with Fast Money..

Some investors are gluttons.

They usually get slaughtered.

Our favorite flying pig is nearly a month old. You know what that means.

HEELYS (HLYS-NASDAQ) is likely on the cusp of Wall Street coverage....

Sure, it is most likely to come from the underwriters of the IPO. You know those guys..the only people on Wall Street who have made money in the stock.

Do you want some help with your homework before the underwriters crank up the printing presses? Maybe an unbiased source?

Waddle on over to the 10-Q detective....

You can get a peek at customer concentration. And legal risks. Yada yada.

You know the drill. All the stuff that might help you decide what multiple to place on the stock.

We don’t have anything against HEELYS...or the kids that favor the shoes.

Stocks like this make working on Wall Street fun.

Are you having fun yet?

You have probably noticed that we love YouTube

But not everybody does...particularly a certain investment banker in Brazil

A BRAZILIAN court has ordered the popular video sharing service YouTube be shut down until it removes a celebrity sex video from its site.

Daniela Cicarelli, a model and ex-wife of football great Ronaldo, sued YouTube after a video of her apparently having sex in shallow water on a beach with her boyfriend was posted to the site.
For days it was the most viewed video in Brazil.

Since when are Brazilian’s camera shy?

A shout out to the Seattle Sleuth is in order

Thank god it wasn’t Komansky in the video

Large-Cap Growth mutual funds are in Wall Street’s doghouse.

The average Large-Cap growth fund trailed the S&P 500 by approximately 670 basis points last year, enough to make any investor howl.

Some of the funds in the category belong in a kennel.

Or worse.

Did you cry when Old Yeller died?

Nobody sheds a tear when fund complexes put a bullet in their biggest dogs.

But they are always slow to pull the trigger.

Savvy investors are known to adopt the dogs of the Dow.

But getting stuck in a mangy mutual fund can stink up a portfolio.

And not even the staunchest contrarians enjoy cleaning up after dogs.

Next week underthecounter will rub a few noses in a pile...as we introduce you to a mutt in each style box.

Skating is fun

but there is nothing funny about some of the track records on Wall Street.

Robert Conrad was a famous tough guy.

He had boatloads of swagger...and was distinctly American.  He was also entertaining...and reputedly still gets tons of fan-mail, mostly from devotees of The Wild Wild West.

That’s Hollywood.

Wall Street, too, attracts a lot of tough guys…

and a fair number of gunslingers.

And apparently you don’t need no stinkin’ badges to pitch stocks on television to Main Street…

LENNY DYKSTRA: Yes. I am a good investor. And I’m not afraid to say that. I’m a winning investor. Fox News Channel

At least you can’t accuse Lenny of style drift...

Billy (Beane) remembers sitting with Lenny in a Mets dugout watching the opposing pitcher warm up. Lenny says “So who is that big dumb ass out there on the hill?” And I say, “Lenny, you’re kidding me, right? That’s Steve Carlton. He’s maybe the greatest left-hander in the history of the game. Lenny says, “Oh, yeah I knew that!” He sits there for a minute for a minute and says, “So, what’s he got?” And I say, “Lenny, come on. Steve Carlton. He’s got heat and also maybe the nastiest slider ever.” And Lenny sits there for a while longer as if he’s taking that in. Finally he just says, “Shit, I’ll stick him” Moneyball

Indeed, the ex-baseball player made quite a splash in the financial media this year.

On the afternoon of Nov. 6, 2006, Lenny Dykstra tips the bellman at the St. Regis Hotel in New York City a double sawbuck for a bottle of water. He tips the doorman a double sawbuck for opening the door to his limo.

The 43-year-old retired baseball player tips the limo driver a C-note for taking him three blocks to Ram Capital Resources, where he’ll be trading some options. Fortune
