Bloggers Deported From China
The Olympics are a welcome diversion to earnings season and Wall Street’s ongoing problems, and many Americans are getting a crash course in Chinese culture.
While the murder of an American was unfortunate, it was probably a random act by a troubled soul.
But taking the hard line is a Chinese tradition. Short sellers might not be shot on sight, but they do not put up with any BS from amateur journalist. And they call in the Army.
An American blogger, Noel Hidalgo, shot a live stream video of a Tibetan protest in Tiananmen Square, which quickly gathered 29,000 views in its first 48 hours. But Chinese authorities quickly tracked him down and sent him back to Los Angeles with a number of other Americans and Canadians, who apparently broke their rules in posting the pictures and videos.
Although, in a hopeful sign, Chinese authorities fed the deportees at KFC before sending them home.
Of course, spending 12 hours on a plane with a belly full of KFC qualifies as torture in my book.
