Catfight on CNBC?

The latest attempt to capitalize on the term we invented is TheStreet.com, who rehash the Bartiromo/Burnett/CNBC/Fox/Bolling drama. There are a few good tidbits in the article, however:

Asked whether the Post’s coverage of the feud was an attempt by News Corp. to spark dissension in the ranks at its rival, a spokeswoman for the newspaper said the allegation was “unworthy of comment.”

Andrew Butcher, a spokesman for News Corp., says it’s a conspiracy theory invented by bloggers.

“We’ve got better ways to compete with CNBC than by coming up with plot lines like that,” says Butcher.

CNBC declined to make Burnett or Bartiromo available for comment.

It would appear CNBC intends to make Dow Jones reporters honor the content-sharing partnership that runs through 2012, but we shall see about that. Too, today is the first full day of Maria’s life as a 40-year old. The youth movement is on at CNBC, and we sincerely hope that Mark Haines, Bill Griffith and Sue Herrera are around for years to come.

Letting the aging Bartiromo leave for Fox might not be so far fetched, It might be the easy way out for top brass. Her antics have put them in a tough spot at times. But her access is unbeatable, given that she can snare the likes of Mozilo et al at crucial times. That is certainly worth something.
