A long anticipated increase in the Costco’s (COST-NASDAQ) gross margin line will have the stock jumping today, and provide retail sector analysts with a little something to celebrate. Underweighting the consumer has been a good strategy, although pockets of strength can be found. The bears have been claiming the consumer is down and out. That appears to be partially true, and they are out pushing large carts through the aisles of Costco’s stores. Best-of-Breed is an overused term, but certainly applies here. The conference call at 11:00 AM should shed some color on the quarter.
