British hedge funders outspent their American counterparts at this year’s industry charity event held at the Marlborough House in London. Last Friday’s ARK benefit, which included a performance by Elton John, raised £17.5 million, a few drops in the bucket more than the £17.2 million raised at this year’s Robin Hood Foundation event in New York. The biggest ticket item of the night was a Damien Hirst spin painting that went for £340,000. One hedge funder ponied up £140,000 pounds for a guitar lesson with Coldplay lead singer Chris Marting followed by dinner with his wife Gwyneth Paltrow. ARK focuses on HIV/AIDS treatment programs in South Africa.
