Ex-Merrill Strategist Launches Research Boutique
Once upon a time, before Abby Cohen rose to prominence, Claudia Mott of Prudential Securities was the go-to woman on the street. Her small-cap quantitative studies were a must read for managers specializing in the tiny tykes. Her retirement created a vaccum that was ably filled by Satya Pradhuman of Merrill Lynch, who paid his dues for years before leaving the Thundering Herd.
Satya is back, however, launching Cirrus Research LLC, an independent research boutique specializing in his stock in trade.
“We are offering a macro approach to small, mid and micro caps which combines quantitative techniques and common sense,” Pradhuman said. “This is a unique strategic product that will appeal to long-only and long/short investors. “The search for good ideas is unending. With the small cap space, you must be nimble, and we intend to inform our clients of anything that will keep them out of trouble.”
According to Eric Fernandez, Senior Strategist, “There is an uneven distribution of small, mid and micro cap companies and analysts that follow them. We perceive this as an opportunity to fill that gap for active managers who are looking for strategic calls about which groups to be in, as well as for arbitrage situations.”
