jacksonFortress Investment Group may soon be the owners of a 50% stake in the publishing rights to th Beatles catalog. The New York-based private equity firm bought a $200 million loan Bank of America had made to Jackson that was secured by the publishing rights. The loan comes due today. The half-stake is worth an estimated $500 million which represents an impressive rate of return for Jackson who paid only $48 million for them in the mid-80s. The King of Pop, who has retreated to Bahrain, could not be reached for comment, though his lawyers expressed optimism that a settlement could be reached.

Comments:

Why doesn’t MJ sell his stake? Where did all his money go? Were Neverland and private slumber parties that financially draining?
