Time for Sam Israel to grab the soap:
Samuel Israel, the fugitive founder of collapsed hedge fund-firm Bayou Group LLC, surrendered to police in Southwick, Massachusetts, a town near the Connecticut border about 117 miles from were he disappeared the day he was to start prison.
Israel turned himself in at 9:15 a.m. today, according to Sue Anderson, assistant to Southwick police chief Mark Krynicki.
Israel’s car was found June 9 on a bridge north of New York City with the message ``suicide is painless’’ written in the dust on its windshield. Israel, 48, was scheduled to begin a 20-year prison sentence for a $400 million fraud that afternoon.
``He’s in custody,’’ said Herb Hadad, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s office in Manhattan.
