Happy Birthday, Joe Torre
My teams have had some quality managers over the years. Sparky Anderson, twice. Don Zimmer when I lived next door to Wrigley, and Joe Torre for a nice run in New York. Contrary to Gary Sheffield, Torre does not own any slaves. But he is a class act. The Yankees are on a tear again, and are only 6 back in the loss column from Boston. Hey Beantown, we are gunning for you. And the Yankeees delivered a birthday present with a win. Sox lose too.
We will even stretch to make our case:
The Yankees 47-44 record is a bit misleading, because they’ve played a lot better than that. They’ve had a lot of bad luck in 1-run games which tends to even out. Their run differential suggests their record should be closer to 53-38. Obviously it’s not, but that’s usually a pretty good indicator of future success. Complete Sports
