With an estimated net worth of $2.6 billion, Simons tops Cablevision’s Charles Dolan and has Computer Associates’ Charles Wang beat several times over. The key to the success of his quantitatively driven hedge fund? “The majority of the people that I’ve hired in the last seven or eight years, high-quality research people, are not U.S. people.” He must be on to something: Renaissance has generated an annualized return to its investors of 34 percent over the last two decades.
