John Thain Playing Role of Scrooge This Christmas
While many of its member firms are in the process of dishing out super-sized bonus packages to its employees, the New York Stock Exchange got into the seasonal mood by axing 60 employees yesterday, most of them clerical and custodial workers. “The [NYSE] confiscated their badges and escorted them from either their offices or the floor — like they were criminals,” said one infuriated floor broker who witnessed the firings. No word on the size of their severance packages. Bad Santa!
