Left Field Theory
Facebook’s beauty contest is over, and Microsoft is making an investment at the $15 billion valuation Zuckerberg wanted. Many folks, including disgraced former internet analyst Henry Blodget, got this wrong and picked Google to hook up with Facebook.
Perhaps there is a reason Google passed. They have messed with Microsoft’s head for the past few years, engaging in the Art of War with many feints. Was this just another fakeout?
We recently added a badge for Wine Library TV to our 48 Hours page. Gary Vaynerchuk runs, along with his family, one of the largest wine retailers in the country. Roughly a year and a half ago he started Wine Library TV, a video blog that has grown into one of the most successful web 2.0 projects on the net. Gary is drawing big numbers, and recently made a trip through the west coast where he sat down with Om Malik and met with several web 2.0 celebs, including the DiggNation dudes, where he was featured on the latest episode.
Vaynerchuk is savvy internut in his own right, and has a theory that perhaps Google has plans to take on Facebook.
Crazy? Sure he is, and so is his theory involving social networking, and Google’s Orkut and Jaiku. And we will take him over Blodget any day.
One of Gary’s early episodes shows his rare restraint, but you get the idea. If you like wine check out Wine Library TV.
