The monoline insurers have been behind much of the recent market volatility; Charlie Gasparino’s frequent updates on CNBC regarding the “rescue” plan can ruin your day in the drop of a hat. Charlie seems to thrive on making market moving pronouncements late on Friday afternoons, and while we can’t predict the ultimate fate of Ambac or MBIA, Inc., the folks at Morningstar have done a good job explaining the nuts and bolts of their business in this video.
