BEA Systems Inc (BEAS-NASDAQ) was one of the wonders of the 1999 bubble, but if Larry Ellison has his way its run this cycle might get cut short. Oracle’s $17 bid to buy the company might not be enough, and with the stock trading over $18 shareholders might want to shake a few more shekels out of Ellison’s pockets. Carl Icahn, who owns 13% of the share count, should make a quick score here, but short sellers, who recently got aggressive laying out stock, will be hurt today if they are not hedged. Icahn was off base with his saber rattling at WCI Communities, but this makes up for that misstep.
