Race of the Week-Colonial Downs
Colonial Downs 9th Race, 1/1/4 Virginia Derby-G2
Saturday, July 21, 2007
1) Circular Quay: Has the only triple digit Beyer Speed Figure in the field and is a Todd Pletcher trained horse. This is a new surface for him being his fist on turf, but he has been training well on the green and if anyone knows how to go dirt to turf it’s Pletcher (21% win dirt/turf). Come from behind style should set up well here.
2) Summer Doldrums: Won here in June and took extremely well from the switch from dirt to turf 3 back. Should be a few lengths off the pace (probably set by front runner Inca King) and be able to pounce on the stretch.
3) Top Cross: Another Pletcher horse in the field-lightly raced and on the improve. Great value with a 15-1 morning line. Might be a stretch here, but has been showing nice late speed. Could sneak up on the field.
Results-Longshot Red Giant takes it
