Slimy Financials Keep on Sliding
Jim Cramer sure picked the wrong year to bet on financials to outperform. We will soon start tracking the magic number in his 50k bet against Eric Bolling. The financials have rarely turned in such a stretch of underperformance, according to Bespoke Investment Group:
As of yesterday’s close, the financial sector is underperfoming the S&P 500 by over 1,600 basis points year to date (-6.6% vs +9.6%). Since 1990, there have only been five other years where the financial sector was underperforming the market at this point in the year, and of those years 1990 is the only year where the spread between the two even approached today’s spread (-11.0% vs 0.7%). Although we must commend Jim on his call on Amazon.com. Good stuff there.

Wednesday night (1/10/07) on Fast Money you challenged Cramer to a little wager...there will be no loser in this trade with $50,000 going to the charity of the winner’s choice. Was it a joke or is the bet really on?
The charity bet is on!! I like Jim, but don’t come into my house and try to drink my wine! Not without a fight. 1440 Wall Street
