Super Size Keith is Halfway Home

Everyone on Wall Street is getting fat and happy today.

Particularly this guy:

Credit Suisse restaurant analyst Keith Siegner is on a low-calorie diet this month. He's dining solely at fast-food chains, consuming salads and grilled chicken -- and double the amount of salt the U.S. government recommends.

Siegner, 33, says he decided to eat only at fast-food outlets to show that people can get low-calorie fare at chains thought to be contributing to America's expanding waistlines. Cutting sodium, a component of table salt, is another matter. The element, linked to an increased risk of heart disease and stroke, is ``pretty much in everything you order,'' he said.

A year into his job as top restaurant analyst, Siegner says the project may raise his profile and give him an edge in picking stocks. He dreamed up the project, dubbed ``Super Size Keith,'' in January, when the Standard & Poor's 500 Index was 16 percent off its record, to ``lighten up the mood'' for clients and co- workers, he said.

I applaud Mr. Siegner's attempt at levity. Sarbox took fun off the table, and the drumbeat of layoffs has many pro's wearing diapers to work, fearing the worst. Treat yourself to some guilty pleasures after the market close this evening, although I am thinking more Bulldog Gin than Big Mac.

Keith has two more weeks of fast food to endure; lets hope he fares better than short sellers have over the past few days.
