Brain Hunter lost $5 or $6 billion at Amaranth and put hundreds of people out of work.  It is no surprise that he had to hire bodyguards to protect him from his colleagues who wanted to kick his butt.  The natural gas trade that blew up on him made Trader Monthly’s #1 Trade of the Year...although the trade probably treated the counter parties better than it treated Brian.

Brian's new fund is going to be named one of Argiano's wines. Disappointing to be sure, as many of you have long been waiting for a a wine to be named after a hedge fund. True, we already have Jackass Zin...it is possibly named after some people you know. Many people are wondering who staked Brian out to start his new fund, Solengo. The bigger question is, which vintage of Solengo is Brian more fond of?

Argiano Solengo

1996
Deep, ruby-red. Very ripe, roasted aromas of currants. Fat, sweet and large-scaled, with concentrated fruit and serious structure. Very persistent finish, with a tannic punch.

1997
Full, deep ruby. Spicy berry nose with a roasted wood quality. Lush and full-bodied with concentrated berry flavor. Finishes again long and tannic. Give it a few years.
