Terry Semel: Circling his Wagons
The internet can make for strange bedfellows...just ask Terry Semel. The very medium that butters his bread is being used against him as frustrated Yahoo! shareholders harness the internet to express their displeasure with his reign as CEO, which has limped along for a little over six years now, but who is counting? The only number that matters is $28, which approximates the 200-day moving average of Yahoo!'s moribund stock.
The love shareholders once felt for the 64-year old CEO is long gone. What took so long for the uprising to start in earnest? We have been chronicling the moves of odd-lotter Eric Jackson for some time now, who has been stirring the pot as Yahoo!'s stock lags its peers and every index known to man. Jackson might not stand a chance to unseat Semel, but his campaign has been a refreshing reminder of how the system is supposed to work. It has also been a textbook example of how to harness Google's youtube.com property to assist in just such an endeavor.

Do you like to pull for underdogs?
Most Americans do. And they love to bet on them as well.
Yahoo! is an underdog. And Terry Semel is on the hot seat. The annual shareholder meeting is 72 days away and he has a few very unhappy shareholders. Whats next?
CEO compensation is great fodder for the front page...Bob Nardelli and Robert Toll have sold a lot of newpapers lately and Terry Semel’s pay package might be the next one to goose circulation numbers. By some accounts Semel has pulled out close to $550 million in compensation since he started at Yahoo! in 2001.
Big numbers. But the stock’s performance has been anemic of late and speculation continues to mount on the company’s future direction.
Eric Jackson is on a mission to make sure something happens in Yahoo!’s corner office. March Madness
The day of reckoning is finally upon us with Yahoo!’s shareholder meeting today....Hopefully Terry is not hard of hearing, because the Fat Lady is warming up.
