Who Knew The Times Read Under The Counter?

November 27, 2005, NY Times -- Wall Street can come up with a money-making product faster than you can say "profit." But creative, nonrevenue-generating ideas have never been a hallmark of the Street. Until, that is, the blog underthecounter.net appeared about three weeks ago. It is among the first dedicated to Wall Street gossip - or as the site says, "It's all about the people, Stupid."
It was started by a 30-something banker who requested that he remain anonymous for fear of losing his job. "There are a lot of people under 40 who like to waste time during the day, and they like to waste their time on something that is relevant to them," he said. So he started the blog. By its second week it had attracted 8,000 page views.
Among the many postings was some musing about a recent New York magazine cover article on sex. His complaint was that there were no Wall Streeters in the story. He urged his readers: "Let's try to do better next year, O.K.?" Spoken like a true master of the universe.
