Should A-Rod play football?

The A-Rod situation continues to amaze.  His weekend in Boston ended with a home run to silence the fans...overshadowing his off field antics.

Apparently A-Rod was an all-state high school quarterback in Florida--on a losing team, of course. He could throw laser-like passes 70 yards had full ride offers to several of the traditional southern powerhouses.

Why did he have to show up here and ruin our team? It is going to be a long summer...my time might better be spent blogging if they don’t get it in gear. Maybe Clemens can light a fire under them in the clubhouse...but he is 20 lbs. overweight.  If he comes in and flops Cashman should be fired.

It sounds like A-Rod has some amazing women in his life....too bad he has to stoop to hanging out with women who resemble trannies.

His mom busted her butt working 1 fulltime and 2 part-time jobs to keep him in school there at Westminster..his sister was his first agent when Piniella came there to draft him the spring of 93…and he dated the same gal pretty much from the beginning of his professional career until he made her his bride….everything he has gotten…he has earned

The bull market in stocks might be dead

But you can always find some upside action if you look hard enough

Today’s big winner is a baseball card

Nicknamed the “Flying Dutchman,” Wagner was the National League batting champion in eight of his 21 seasons and finished his career with a lifetime .329 average. He retired in 1917 with more hits, runs, RBIs, doubles, triples steals than any National League player.

In 1991 Wayne Gretzky and Bruce McNall paid $451,000 for the card pictured above. In 1996 it changed hands for $640,000. A few years later the card sold for approximately $1.265 million, including buyers premium.

The card just changed hands again...for $2.3 million.

But Honus represents the past.

Bob Bowman is baseball’s future...and its MVP.

Bob Bowman

President, CEO, MLB Advanced Media
Some online players work in content, some are specialists in fantasy or e-commerce. Many of the larger sites combine a couple of these capabilities. But Bowman and MLBAM can claim a sizable foothold in all of the above areas, as well as a growing stable of outside development work. Fervently driven about the company and its position among baseball fans, Bowman’s ability to execute the original, collective MLBAM vision for a group of often parochial team owners — and then continue to build upon it — cannot be overstated.
20 Most Influential/Street & Smith’s

The CEO of MLB Advanced Media was once an up and comer on Wall Street. He joined Goldman Sachs fresh out of the Wharton Business School but burnished his legend as the youngest Treasurer in the history of the State of Michigan back in the 1980’s.

He was credited for steering Michigan’s pension fund to outsized returns in the 1980’s. although the bull market certainly might have helped. He was also once known as a stockpicker and achieved some notoriety for championing the purchase of Digital Equipment Corporation which was The Apple of its day.  Bowman bio

Let the sellers have their way with this market today...and spend a little time at the MLB site.

Did you miss Joe Kernen on Squawk Box friday? We did too...and we can’t be sure but he might be on assignment giving the new Porsche 911 GT3 RS a workout. Joe knows German cars and could tell you in a heartbeat what “RS” stands for.

Detroit’s struggles are good fodder for the front pages...but there are no worries at Porsche. The Cayenne might keep the lights on and pay the bills, but cars like the GT3 RS will remind you that enthusiasts still run the shop.

Not everyone can justify a new supercar...but even average Joe’s can go here and give the car a test drive of their own.

Speaking of Porsche...we will be back soon and finish up some business with Richard Sloan.

After all, it is almost spring.

Look in the mirror lately?

Earnings season takes its toll...hang in there. So you will have a life again.

Spring is almost here...although this season things will look a little different in The Friendly Confines:

MESA, Ariz.—Bricks and ivy have made up most of the outfield walls at Wrigley Field for the last 70 years, but the Cubs will alter the ballpark’s famous backdrop for at least the next two years with advertisements on the old green doors.

The Cubs announced a multiyear deal Wednesday with Under Armour, a sports apparel company, agreeing to place its logo and name on the outfield doors. Terms of the agreement were not announced, but the ads will be in place at least through 2008. Chicago Tribune

The monkey business is over...welcome back to work

We are licking our wounds ‘round here...and to add insult to injury the commercials were weak.

Miss the chimps?

The Careerbuilder ads were a favorite on Wall Street...given that they accurately portrayed life in the Jungle.

PETA came down pretty hard on Careerbuilder, who pulled the ads amid allegations of animal mistreatment.

They were certainly were popular, 84% of the respondents in this poll claim to miss the rambunctious simians.

After helping CareerBuilder climb over Monster.com to become the largest online job site, the chimps are being let go--right before the second anniversary of the 2005 Super Bowl commercial that vaulted them, and the company, into public consciousness.

With 83 million MONK-E-MAILS downloaded, it would seems fans are legion:

These are hysterical. I applaud PETA for their organization, but feel it should focus their efforts on baby seals, or furs. These monkeys don’t appear to be mistreated…they have better suits than my husband. Seriously, I don’t think any animal should be mistreated, but I also believe God put things on this earth to make us laugh, and monkeys were one of them. (p.s. These meetings are JUST like corporate America…I love it!) Duncans.tv/comment

Don’t fret
Monk-e-mails are still alive, even if the chimps are retired.

Maybe Monster (MNST-NASDAQ) can return to form next year...they were once in the game
